Guide to Travelling to Athens from Asia and Australasia
The degree of difficulty which would be associated with open surgery, the expected outcome and possible complications which may arise are also important factors.  All these points will be discussed at this consultation.
Iatropolis Magnitiki Tomographia AE is a private specialised tomography and scanning facility which has recently created one of the most modern CyberKnife®  installations.

Iatropolis Magnetic Tomography
Located in the northern outskirts of Athens, Greece, Iatropolis is an inpatient treatment centre and will arrange collection of patients from the airport.
Iatropolis Centre Athens
Iatropolis offers the full range of CyberKnife interventions and most prodecures are carried out on site.  The Centre employs 55 doctors, 8 of whom are Professors at Athens University and it has a combined technical and administrative staff of 165.
Applying for treatment at Iatropolis
Some cases can be assessed by documentation and scans submitted, but others may require a more detailed review and further scans on site.
Athens CT and MRI scanning
However if too long a time elapses between this assessment and your treatment a further scan will be required.  CyberKnife radiosurgery is a very precise form of treatment and is tailored to the exact size and shape of the target, so recent, high quality scans are required to build the correct treatment programme.

Maybe you have a few days to pass whilst the preparations settle before your treatment?  Provided you lay off the extreme sports for a bit you are free to enjoy yourself whilst you wait.  Or perhaps you just feel you deserve a break after all that you have been through?  Either way, you are in the right place!  The Greek mainland has so much to offer within easy distance of Athens and the islands beckon, with many just a short ferry ride away.  Give yourself time to relax and enjoy a complete change of pace.  You know it will do you good!
And finally......
Visit Olympic Airlines
They have treated over 750 patients to date and have 7 MRI scanners (including a Siemens Trio, the only 3 Tesla MRI in Greece), 3 CT scanners (including a Siemens Definition, a 128 slice CT unit designed for larger hospitals and research facilities) and a full range of other diagnostic units.
Apart from CyberKnife the centre offers biopathology, cardiology, coronary CT, cytology, mammography, neurophysiology, nuclear medicine, radiography, ultrasound and more.
One accompanying relative can be accommodated on site and the Centre will arrange suitable hotels and transport for others.
Cases are reviewed twice-weekly by the CyberKnife scientific team (neurosurgeon, radiotherapist-oncologist and radiophysicist) and if further information is required they will advise you accordingly.
If your case may be treatable, Iatropolis will ask you to send them scans.  These may be uploaded directly to their system or by posted on a CD, and they will give you the necessary details at the time.
Iatropolis is more than just a CyberKnife Centre, so can offer combined intervention along with other specialities.  This can be beneficial or even essential in some cases,  particularly with soft tissue tumours.
The decision on whether to treat is made after a complete evaluation of the patient.  This includes consideration of the type of disease, size and number of tumours, localization and the age and general condition of the patient.
In that case you will need to visit to Athens for a consultation and possibly a further scan.  There is a charge for this, but if CyberKnife treatment is indicated and is given promptly it will be credited against the total cost of your treatment.
Placement of fiducials (markers)
The national currency of Greece is the Euro.
Some treatments (but not brain or spine) require placement of small metal fiducials as markers to guide the CyberKnife® and these must then be allowed to settle for about a week before treatment can be given.
This is a normal part of the CyberKnife® treatment process and you should remain in Greece for this period. A ‘compulsory holiday’ in Greece is preferable to open surgery in a hospital however!
